CANFAR with Web

  1. To open a session on the web, first navigate to "canfar.net".

  2. Sign into CANFAR, click "Login" in the top right corner of the page - which in the image above states my name as I was already logged in. Enter your CADC credentials when prompted.

  3. Now that you are signed in, you are now able to start a session. Navigate to the Science Portal by clicking on the corresponding button. This is the bottom right of the six options above.

  4. There may be pop-ups as the page prepares itself. Wait until you have similar screen as the follwing image:

  5. Select '+' to launch a new session.

    a. There are several kinds of session you can start:

    • Notebook: A Jupyter notebook session.

    • Desktop: A virtual machine session.

    • Carta:

    • Contributed:

    b. We are going to leave the type as "Notebook", next we can choose the image for our session.

    Note

    In order to see chimefrb images, you must be part of the chimefrb project on images.canfar.net. If you do not have access, please ask for access on the #frb-compute-help Slack channel.

    c. You can also configure the amount of memory and cores you require the session to have.

  6. Once you are happy with the configuration, press "Launch" to request the session. This step can take a little while for CANFAR to set up your session. Once it is ready, you'll be able to launch it by clicking on it.
